Thank you for supporting the National Association of Assistant United States Attorneys (NAAUSA), the principle advocate for AUSAs. I am deeply grateful for your support and engagement.
I’m writing to tell you about an exciting new NAAUSA initiative: The Foundation for Safeguarding Justice (FSJ).
As you know, over the past several years, AUSAs and other members of the law enforcement community have been under public attack by a variety of well-financed, defendant-sympathetic organizations that have sought to defame our federal justice system, its laws and AUSAs. Groups like the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, ACLU and Families Against Mandatory Minimums have relentlessly portrayed our federal justice system as unfair and AUSAs like you as biased. Some media outlets have contributed to these attacks with inaccurate reporting about the justice system and your work as an AUSA.
Because of these sustained attacks, increasing numbers of American citizens have begun to accept a narrative that portrays the innocent as being recklessly sent to prison for lengthy periods, without regard to guilt or the severity of the offense. We as AUSAs know that these accusations are untrue, and that the American justice system remains the gold standard throughout the world. But we, as servants of the law, have done little to set the record straight, or educate the public about how our federal system of justice works or the challenges that daily threaten public safety. That is about to change.
Recently NAAUSA established The Foundation for Safeguarding Justice (FSJ) as a 501(c)(3) partner think tank devoted to academic research and public education on issues of public concern involving public safety, national security and criminal justice. The vital role that AUSAs play in the federal justice system will be central to the vision of the Foundation and its ongoing work. Through academic research, public education and media efforts, the Foundation for Safeguarding Justice will promote the Founders’ vision that ordered liberty — the fundamental right of every citizen – requires a system of laws and their equal application and impartial enforcement by prosecutors, public safety officers and the courts.
The founding of the Foundation for Safeguarding Justice is ambitious, but we have been guided by an energetic group of AUSAs who are helping to put FSJ on the map.
To succeed, we need your support and partnership too. Consider making a year-end tax-deductible gift to the Foundation for Safeguarding Justice. You can make your gift securely and easily by clicking here.

While we are working to make the Foundation a success, NAAUSA will continue to aggressively work with DOJ leadership to eliminate the inequity in pay between AUSAs and DOJ attorneys and secure worklife benefits, e.g. flexible and compressed schedules, for all AUSAs.”
